About Me

Heather Capell Bramble is mother of two kaleidoscoping kids, Jonah and Vera. She has a magical kaleidoscope, often in her back pocket, and it usually helps her turn her normally chaotic life into something beautiful. Her goal is to have as much fun and try to be as happy as they can while on the uncharted journey of motherhood. This means doing lots of arts and crafts, going on crazy adventures, and celebrating all kinds of holidays - and yes, trying to laugh along the way!

Spreading the red!

Turns out that this Sunday starts the Chinese New Year celebrations of the Lunar Year of the Snake.  You know we are all about celebrating stuff... so we busted out our Chinese New Year bin from the basement.  We read some books this week about how to celebrate it: red lanterns, red envelopes, fireworks, parades, dragons and snakes!  Boy, that's a lot to choose from.

Conveniently for us, the Chinese New Year falls rights before Valentine's Day this year - so we are going to get some extra mileage from all the "red" we are creating!

Jonah & Vera decided they wanted to make red lanterns first.  So we did:

Red tissue paper glued onto to empty plastic water bottles and empty clear plastic cups - let dry over night and we hung them onto a string of lights with duct tape!  Instant red sparkly lanterns! We made about 12 of them!

We are hoping to have some more Chinese New Year fun this weekend... maybe some snake making, eating Chinese food, watching Mulan, and going to the parade in Chinatown... we'll see what else the kaleidoscope has in store for us!
