About Me

Heather Capell Bramble is mother of two kaleidoscoping kids, Jonah and Vera. She has a magical kaleidoscope, often in her back pocket, and it usually helps her turn her normally chaotic life into something beautiful. Her goal is to have as much fun and try to be as happy as they can while on the uncharted journey of motherhood. This means doing lots of arts and crafts, going on crazy adventures, and celebrating all kinds of holidays - and yes, trying to laugh along the way!

Pumpkining & so much more @ the Patch...

It's that time of year again.  Pumpkins are EVERYWHERE!  Jonah keeps asking me when is "pumpkin day?"  Vera keeps calling all the pumpkins apples... and then we tell her, "No Vera, they are pumpkins not apples" and she just laughs her head off!

Our sukkah is still up?!?!  We are a bit slow on falling into fall... But it is time to switch out the decorations and bring out the orange and the spooky...  It's going to be Halloween!

I'd say Halloween was my favorite holiday - but then you'd just think - oh, there she goes again... she says that about every holiday!  And it is true.  Right before the holiday actually arrives, I just can't stop thinking about it and loving it!  I don't know why (I should deal with that in therapy I suppose) but I just love holidays.  I love the decorating, the celebrating, the foods, the message, the gathering with your special people and I especially love the holidays on which you get to dress up (and often if the holiday doesn't involve official costumes I add my own touch and figure out special outfits - it's just me...)

This past weekend we started our official Halloween celebrating over here.  We went to a fall farm festival with a pumpkin patch and so much more.  After reading about Not-So-SAHM's great time at Montpelier Farms, we figured we go for it!  And we were not disappointed.

We convinced our good buddy Auntie Chris to come with her little gang (her mom and nephew were visiting) and we had a blast.  We arrived at the farm around 4pm.  We were off and running.

The boys mined the minerals for treasure. Jonah & Vera raced rubber duckies.  After that they ran as fast as they could straight to the hay maze for kids... they loved that!  Then Jonah,Vera & I jumped on the cow tractor train... Moo Moo (not choo cho!).  We met up with our buddies and attempted to build our scarecrows.  Our buddies built theirs - but Jonah & Vera escaped and would not leave the pit of corn kernels?!?!  This thing was like a sand box but filled with corn kernels and various toys.  Jonah and Vera thought this was the greatest thing ever!!!!  I attempted to build the scarecrow in like 5 minutes while I sort watched my kids rolling around in the corn. Let's just say our buddies helped us out on this one...

By then it was definitely time for snack break. We drank apple cider, ate roasted corn and french fries, and Auntie Chris sampled the sausage and peppers.  Everything was good!

Then it was back into the thick of it.  We hadn't even gotten to the pumpkin patch yet.  But first, Vera tried out the toys in the kiddie corner while Jonah and his buddy waited in line to ride the "go-carts" - we use the term ride loosely here.  I pushed Jonah around the track - that is what mommy is for - right...

Finally it was getting dark and we needed to get at least one pumpkin.  The pumpkins were a strange sort.  We managed to find two small ones to bring home and put on our porch.  (Note my camera stopped working and the phone camera didn't really cut it in the twilight) But I think I'll be stopping at Safeway to get us a big pumpkin to carve.

We left the farm and it was DARK!  As in pitch dark.  We had a great time.  Jonah, Vera and their buddy had so much fun just running and playing all over the farm.  It was crispy fall weather.  It was the beginning of our Halloween fun!

Thank you Auntie Chris and crew for spending such a fun day with us.  (Yes, they are in the "village" too).

The next day we put our Scarecrow on our porch swing.  Jonah and Vera hung and swung with him for a while.  Then we moved him to a chair by the front door so everyone could see him when they walk by - Jonah announced the other day:

"Mommy, the scarecrow needs his best friend. We need to tell Auntie Chris to bring her Scarecrow over so they can be best friends and sit together."

Vera on the other hand, she just hugs him constantly, every time we enter and leave the house.

Good times.

Auntie Chris if you want to bring your guy over... there is a seat on our front porch for him.

Hello Halloween Season!  We are happy you are here!
