About Me

Heather Capell Bramble is mother of two kaleidoscoping kids, Jonah and Vera. She has a magical kaleidoscope, often in her back pocket, and it usually helps her turn her normally chaotic life into something beautiful. Her goal is to have as much fun and try to be as happy as they can while on the uncharted journey of motherhood. This means doing lots of arts and crafts, going on crazy adventures, and celebrating all kinds of holidays - and yes, trying to laugh along the way!

A Little Halloween Hunkering Down

Since this past Friday it has been quite busy around here.  We started officially celebrating Halloween on Friday evening at Boo @ the Zoo! On Saturday afternoon, it was a big Race Day for me on and a play date for the kids. Saturday night there was a huge road trip despite the impending "Sandy" storm to Brooklyn, NY.  Why you ask?  For Jocelyn's father's 40th anniversary of his ordination as an Episcopalian priest.  Sunday was celebration day in Brooklyn of Grandpa with lots of food and family.  And then we literally braved the storm, and drove back from Brooklyn all night to DC.  We woke up on Monday in our house and Sandy was blowing up a storm!  We hunkered down for two days - no school, no work, no exiting the house... but we did HAVE POWER (THANK GOD!!!)  We also had some water enter our basement - no too much and nothing to complain about.

Monday and Tuesday were long days and nights.  We spent lots of time in our pajamas. We also did lots of cooking, arts & crafts, watching TV and playing... not so much sleep.  But we survived and yes, we even managed to have some fun.  Well, you decide, pictures can tell quite a story.  Jonah & Vera seemed to have a good time.  Jonah kept asking to "do more things mommy, PLEAASEEE!" and then Vera would echo, "more mommy, PLEASSSEEE!"

Those kids are TOO much!

Here are some highlights...

ACTIVITY #1:  Making, baking and decorating a pumpkin Halloween cake - occurred over 2 days

ACTIVITY #44:  Painting Halloween wooden cut outs, cleaning up lots of paint and playing with them after they dried... 90 minutes

ACTIVITY #135: Hand and Foot Prints.  We did this the first time last year (that is the first picture) This year we did purple hand bats, white feet ghosts, and green feet Frankensteins (in honor of Frankenstorm) and then put eye stickers on them and cut them out and pasted them onto paper plates and hung them as decorations.  40 minutes.

last year's prints...

ACTIVITY #437:  Dressing up as pumpkins (in hand me down outfits), eating pumpkin peeps, and having a pumpkin dance party and photo shoot... 30 minutes.
