Heather Capell Bramble is mother of two kaleidoscoping kids, Jonah and Vera. She has a magical kaleidoscope, often in her back pocket, and it usually helps her turn her normally chaotic life into something beautiful. Her goal is to have as much fun and try to be as happy as they can while on the uncharted journey of motherhood. This means doing lots of arts and crafts, going on crazy adventures, and celebrating all kinds of holidays - and yes, trying to laugh along the way!

Day of AWE-some...

They (you know the proverbial they) call the days between Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur the Days of Awe.  They are supposed to be filled with introspection, repentance, prayer, self awareness and reaching out to those you have wronged - as well as recommitting one's self to God and a better self.  Rosh Hashannah begins this spiritual path with a two day celebration of the birthday of the world!  Lots of eating sweet treats (including those apples and honey) and wishing everyone a Shana Tova!

On Sunday night, we gathered the whole mishpachah (family) here and had a big festive meal.  We celebrated the birthday of the world but also Pop's upcoming birthday and Nana's upcoming birthday!  It was super fun!

The FIVE grand kids all had a blast and it was really AWESOME to have us all together to celebrate.  That is what holidays are all about - being with the ones you love and those on which you can depend - no matter the season, the time or the place...

On Monday during the day, the DCJCC planned a program for the first day of Rosh Hashannah for families with small children called Day of AWE-some.  We signed up!  I figured it was perfect for my crew - me, Jonah, Vera & Nana!

It was right up our alley.  It was all very organized and hit on all the major themes.  There were 5 rooms with activities for the kids.  Nana LOVED it!!! My kids played along and did have fun - although the rooms they used for the activities were the preschool rooms and my kids were really into playing with the toys in the rooms... but we did get some holiday activities in as well.  There was shofar blowing, birthday hats, making edible sukkahs, making edible apples & honey necklaces (out of applejacks & honeycombs cereal), a holiday sing along, painting holiday cards, and more!

The second night (Monday night) we had a few very close friends over for another big dinner.  Again, trying to be around those closest to us to celebrate a special night.  Jonah and Vera seemed to super enjoy the good food, the attention and all the sweet treats!  (apples, HONEY, honey cake, holiday cookies, HONEY, jelly fish - a tradition in our house, and more HONEY)

SHANA TOVA!

I think we are ready for Yom Kippur and the Days of Awe!!!  (Although I have yet to send out my totally cute New Years Cards... I am working on it...)

Ok, Universe, bring it on!  Let me hear everyone give me a great big collective AMEN!
