As we say good bye to the summer, I figure we should finish off our posts from the end of July. One place on our Adventure List as we like to call it, was the National Capital Trolley Museum. It isn't that far from DC (about 25 minutes in the DC suburbs of MD) and well, its got streetcars and you can ride them... right up our train tracks!!
Throughout the summer they had "kid days" with kid friendly activities. So we picked a kid day and went for a ride! Literally. Like I said, you can ride the streetcar. The museum is not big - quite small and not much to see. There is a cartoon movie about streetcars, another film about the history of streetcars, a little shop, and some model trains behind glass: the big draw is the actual ride. We went on a very very very hot day. The streetcars are not air conditioned... they have some open windows...
We rode the streetcar first. That was a big hit although it was sort of crowded and before we turned around to come back - it stopped and the conductor gave us a little talk (long talk) and did I mention it was hot... we sort of made it through the talk and got back to the museum. Then we walked around the museum - it was air conditioned. The kids liked playing with the buttons on the model trains.
Then we went to story/craft time. It was me, my kids and two older kids and their mom. The older kids - they were about 5 and 6, loved it. My kids sort of liked the story and Vera really enjoyed putting the felt animals up on the felt board... it was a really cute story about all these animals on a train - but of course I can not remember the name of it.
Then Jonah really enjoyed he craft. There were cut outs that you glued to a little trolley picture.
All in all, a good day. And a ride on the streetcar. Fun place to visit. We were happy we went on Kid Day, so we got to have the story/craft time.
