Look Both Ways! @ The Yards!

Everyone has been talking about it all week!  Around town, in the park, on the streets, hanging from buildings (we saw some at Farragut Square see here)!  The Kennedy Center's Street Arts Festival Look Both Ways! was having a big finale party at the DC Yards Park today.  Everyone who was anyone was going to be there... or something like if you had a little kid you were going to be there if you weren't at a birthday party, out of town, on a playdate, or at the Turtle Park May Fair...

Count us in!  I texted a bunch of our buddies with kids this morning to see who we could meet there.  BINGO!  We got some hits!  Day was promising to be a good one.

We got a late start due to Vera's insisting on taking her morning nap and the Saturday DC traffic.  We picked Mama up at the office on the way and did not get there until 2:00.  But we got there!  We saw one buddy who was on the way out.  We met up with another buddy group at the fountains... so that was it - into the water we went!  It was Vera's first foray into public open H20, she was initially hesitant, but then was totally into it.  Jonah was happy, happy, happy as he had a buddy in crime to splash and follow like a fish!  Although to say he was cold was an understatement... the kid was freezing his "gotchkies" off!!! But he would not get out for the life of him!  He was having the time of his life.  Finally, we managed to get them away with promises of treats and making balls... such boys!

Oh yeah, the street arts were great too!  We saw a walking fish reading books, a dog trick show, the Midnight Circus, a jump roping troupe, a guy playing a saw (for real-he was good), a clown on the unicycle, and more that I can not remember..

Jonah made this bouncy ball thingy with his best buddy.  Jonah and Vera rocked it out in the street chalk section.  There was cheesecake snacks for everyone from the food truck.

It was my first time at the DC Yards.  It is a wonderful space.  Green space, water to play in, cool bridge, and new development all around.  Plus a great view of the new ball park.  My plan: visit plenty this summer!  Maybe even catch a concert or two!  Excited about the new discovery.  Next time I may try to take the metro and skip the DC traffic.

Bottom line, the four of us and our buddies had a good time.  The weather was PERFECT!  We spent three hours and the kids had blast.  We dropped Mama back at the office and then on the way home in the car both kids had complete & total meltdowns... are you noticing a trend here.  I managed to get them home, feed them, give them baths and get them to bed.  Mission accomplished.
