About Me

Heather Capell Bramble is mother of two kaleidoscoping kids, Jonah and Vera. She has a magical kaleidoscope, often in her back pocket, and it usually helps her turn her normally chaotic life into something beautiful. Her goal is to have as much fun and try to be as happy as they can while on the uncharted journey of motherhood. This means doing lots of arts and crafts, going on crazy adventures, and celebrating all kinds of holidays - and yes, trying to laugh along the way!

Finding Nemo!

This past Sunday afternoon as we were coming back from the Thanksgiving grateful and food coma - my kaleidoscope thought we should go in search of Nemo... makes all the sense in the world!

So we packed ourselves up and Jonah, Vera and I took a quick trip downtown to visit the DC National Aquarium.  It has been on our "to do" list forever and it seemed like a fun thing to do.

It was not very crowded.  This is always a good thing.  And despite the fact we had to pay to get in (I know we are spoiled because we live in Washington DC and there is so much for free here!), we embarked on our mission to find Nemo!  Now, I had no idea if Nemo actually existed in this aquarium but it made for a fun game (and I figured if he wasn't there we would just watch him on TV later...).  It was dark - at first Jonah was terrified there would be scary monsters... but then we got ourselves together and calmed down.  Turns out it is not very big, this aquarium and it sort of looks like an eccentric family member's basement filled with fish tanks - but Jonah & Vera Loved it!

Right away we found an alligator.  This was perfect since Jonah & Vera are obsessed with alligators and crocodiles (Thank you Peter Pan and Jake and the Neverland Pirates - I know I know, we watch a lot of TV... maybe too much TV).  Jonah and Vera even have a little alligator/crocodile song... they move their hands in a chomping way and sing, "chomp, chomp, chippy, chippy chomp..." and chomp their hands - BOTH of them do this and then they laugh!  It turns out I believe this little performance is actually courtesy of Yo Gabba Gabba (yes another TV show) - as they have a little dancey dancy segment in which they teach this little dance.  So be it - it is really cute.  And yes, they were doing it at the aquarium (see the picture below).

We made our way through the aquarium and finally, there they were... NEMO and DORI!!!

Jonah & Vera were ecstatic! Jonah started talking to him about who knows what.  Vera started screaming, "HUGS HUGS!" and then started hugging the glass window. (see picture below)  Then Jonah started screaming, "KISS" - and yes, both my kids started actually kissing the glass window?!?!!

I "quietly" asked them to stop such public displays of attention.

After our Nemo encounter, we were sort of done with the aquarium.

We managed a quick trip through the gift shop in which we purchased a small family of four - they were sharks and only $6.95,  We also bought Mama a shark poster - sharks are her favorite thing... Jonah insisted we get it for her.

Quick fun easy local trip to a little aquarium with admission fee - Success!  Thank you kaleidoscope!

Bottom line:  NEMO FOUND!
