An Ice Cream Sunday...

Thanks to our buddies over at My Adventures with Buster Yellow, we knew it was National Ice Cream Day today.

We didn't have a great night.  Vera is fighting a cold and had us up most of the night.  We missed a birthday party this morning because we all ended up taking naps.  Jonah and Mama then headed out for "soccer" - we had signed up for this local soccer 6 week program on Certifikid - but it hasn't really panned out.  The first week was way too hot and Jonah was too overwhelmed - there was a lot going on - his birthday party was the same day and Nana was in town.  The next week Mama and Jonah went but they could not find the class.  The next week was the heat wave - so we skipped it.  They went again today and again - it wasn't there... (knowing this might happen - Mama was clued in to go get ice cream instead...).  So they did.  Yeah for National Ice Cream Day!

Our Buster Yellow buddies also shared with us another great idea:  eat some astronaut ice cream to celebrate!  We have been having our own "science & spaceships" theme week with our buddies and we had stocked up on astronaut ice cream - so as they say, "imitation is the best form of flattery!" and we "scooped" (I couldn't resist the pun) their idea and opened ours up for snacks today!  It was fun!

All day I've been singing the Sara McLachlan song in my head, "Ice Cream" - one of my favorite songs.  One of my favorite lines in the song is, "Your love is better than ice cream.  Better than anything else that I've tried... ."

Having ice cream with your kids on National Ice Cream Day - that is SWEET.  It wasn't a particularly great day but it was filled with lots of hugs, snuggles, sibling fights, whining, complaining and yummy ice cream treats.  I love ice cream a lot!  I didn't know this when I first heard the song (years ago, when I much younger and much less wiser...), it turns out, the love you have for your kids, and getting their love back... it is DEFINITELY better than ice cream.

Happy National Ice Cream!  Happy Sunday night!  Happy almost Monday!
